Company Profile

History & Milestones

Established in 1984, KCT began as a small-scale manufacturer operating out of a homemade facility. Driven by passion, quality craftsmanship, and innovation, the company steadily grew and, by 1993, relocated to a two-unit terrace shop lot. As production demand increased, KCT expanded to nearly four shop lots—yet space soon became a limiting factor.

In 1996, KCT's founder invested in a dedicated industrial space, Factory Lot 212, which was fully developed and operational by 1998. This purpose-built facility remains the company's current headquarters and central hub for design, production, and quality control.

With over four decades of experience, KCT has earned a strong industry reputation for precision, reliability, and forward-thinking design. The company has continued to evolve, gaining recognition from global brands and partners.

Key milestones include:

2001 – Appointed the exclusive licensee and sole authorized manufacturer of SPALDING sports backpacks in Malaysia.
2008 – Appointed as the official licensed manufacturer of DORAEMON bag products, including school bags, backpacks, tuition bags, and trolley bags—trusted by families and students nationwide.
2009 – Selected by the local HELLO KITTY licensee to manufacture all official packaging bags for the brand.
2010 – Appointed by BAKPROTEK as an ODM (Original Design Manufacturer) for spinal protection school and laptop bags. These ergonomic products were certified and recommended by Dr. Rita Wong, a Doctor of Chiropody.

Recognizing the growing demand for customized and corporate gifting solutions, we expanded our vision further. In 2012, KCT successfully developed and trademarked a range of exclusive in-house brands — HaLaLTo®, CARGINZI®, Phillippe-Reono®, and Spiprotec®. These brands were designed specifically to offer stylish, practical, and high-quality bag collections that also serve as ideal corporate gift sets, tailored to meet diverse consumer and client needs.

Founder's Profile

Mr. YAP SET LONG — Founder of KCT Group

With over 40 years of experience in the industry, Mr. Yap is the visionary founder of KCT Group. A seasoned businessman with diverse expertise, he is recognized as one of the pioneers in Malaysia's OEM and ODM manufacturing sectors.

Mr. Yap began his entrepreneurial journey in 1993, leveraging his professional skills in high-frequency techniques and handmade craftsmanship within the diary notebook printing industry. By 1997, he strategically shifted the business focus toward the corporate premium and souvenir gift market.

Under his leadership, the company reached new heights in 2000 when it became the sole authorized licensed manufacturer of the U.S. SPALDING brand, producing all types of casual and sports backpacks in Malaysia.

In 2008, Mr. Yap successfully expanded the company's portfolio into the children's bag market, securing authorization as the licensed manufacturer for the Japanese DORAEMON brand, covering school bags and stationery products.

Beyond bag manufacturing, Mr. Yap brings over 35 years of experience in corporate advertising and marketing, particularly within Multi-Level Marketing (MLM) companies. His broad skill set encompasses extensive marketing expertise as well as technical manufacturing knowledge.

Since 2014, Mr. Yap has diversified his interests into the development industry, embracing new challenges and opportunities for growth beyond manufacturing.
